Eric Manginis Second Chance

There is a reason that George Kokinis was fired and not Eric Mangini and that’s because Randy Lerner and his newly hired consultant Bernie Kosar still buy into his plan but they don’t think he can achieve the goal if he can’t put forth a 100% effort into coaching.

When Eric Mangini was hired he was given complete control over this team. From player movement to game planning to trades to final say of the 53 man roster to what color socks the team wore on off days and it was too much for one person to handle.

What Randy Lerner hopes to accomplish is to get a GM in Cleveland that can handle that side of the business. The Browns need someone to work on contracts, especially for Josh Cribbs and Phil Dawson. The Browns need someone to make player personnel decisions after Mangini gives his opinions. This will free up time for Eric to game plan, coach his team and get more involved with his cordinators because if there isn’t improvement the rest of the season, he will be out of a job too.

Mangini is a very hard worker and dedicated to what he does and despite what people say, he is a very knowledgeable football mind.

If he doesn’t take offense to the changes that are being made and he can dedicate himself solely to coaching this team I think he can make this team competitive by the end of the season. Of course there is option 2, that says if he can't have full control he doesn't want to be part of the team and he'll quit. I know thats what a lot of you want but i don't think its going to happen. If Eric runs out on this team he won't see another coaching job in the NFL.

Would you believe that George Kokinis wasn’t aware of the Braylon Edwards trade until he saw it on tv? This goes to show how little Kokinis was involved in this organization, he was a name and that was it.

  1. Wow, this post is hilarious. I need to start proofing your posts for not only spelling but for accuracy.

Mangini was NOT hired with full control of the 53-man roster. The Browns had to give power over the 53 to Kokinis in order to hire him away from the Ravens because you can't make a lateral move in the NFL. If you hire somebody it has to be a promotion with more responsibility than they had at their previous employment. Kokinis was hired to have final say on the roster but that never happened.

    Why?

Mangini recommended Kokinis because he was a good friend and he figured he wouldn't mind if Mangini controlled the 53 man roster even though Kokinis was hired to do exactly that. There are rumors that they struggled with this "process" and Kokinis never really felt that he had any real responsibilities with the organization and their relationship quickly deteriorated because of this.

The fact that you are blaming Kokinis for not being more involved is a joke. Mangini has absolutely no friends left in the NFL. All 10 of the people that liked him are either already fired or former Jets that are now playing for the Browns.

Mangini let Kokinis take the fall. If Lerner and Kosar are buying into Mangini's "plan" then when did they fire his hand-picked GM and his trusty assistant?

This season was Mangini's second chance and he blew it.

  2. Did you even read the freaking post?

    1. On paper Kokinis had final say of the roster but we all know Mangini was the one with final say. Thats why he picked his own GM. If for one minute you believe Kokinis ever had any control of the roster you need to come back from la la land. That was a ridiculous comment.

    2. I'm not blaming Kokinis, i'm saying Mangini took on to much responsibility.

    3. You just re-wrote my post.

    4. Lerner just took away Manginis power and thats why his hand picked man was fired.

  3. Yes, I read the entire post more than once.

    This is what I read...

"When Eric Mangini was hired he was given complete control over this team. From player movement to game planning to trades to final say of the 53 man roster to what color socks the team wore on off days and it was too much for one person to handle."

That is false. Butch Davis got that kind of deal, not Mangini. Mangini stripped the GM responsibilities from Kokinis when they butted heads over how to manage the roster. Maybe Kokinis wasn't in agreement to completely tank this season by trading away our talent for Jets backups.

"4. Lerner just took away Manginis power and thats why his hand picked man was fired."

I'm a little confused. Why would Lerner take away Mangini's power if he was still "buying into his plan" ??

Mangini's head is going to explode when there is somebody in power above him explaining actual details of what is going on with this team. That's what Kokinis was supposed to be doing.

  4. 4. His coaching. They want him to coach only. How many time do i need to say it. Game Plan.

  5. NEWSFLASH: The team is 1-7 and the players don't want to play for this guy.

It's not even about his coaching skills. The fact that he can't co-exist with anybody is what is going to doom him here like it did in New York. Mangini does not work well with others and he's proven that at every place he's been.

He couldn't even co-exist with his good friend. That has to tell you something right there.

  7. If the Browns hired a President of Football operations and a GM and kept Mangini on board, do you think he could be a good coach?

    ReplyDelete
  8. No, not a chance.

If Lerner hired a President back in January to help him hire a head coach we wouldn't be even having this conversation because no President would even consider hiring Mangini.

Bringing in a President now and hoping that Mangini will suddenly be able to reverse everything he's done is unrealistic. He's made more blunders in his short time here than Romeo and Phil made in their entire tenure here.

  9. What blunders?

    Who do you want back?

Winslow? Edwards? Shaun Smith? Andra Davis? Rod Hood?

or was it a blunder that when he got here the Browns had 4 draft picks and he turned it into 7 (i think).

Or is it a blunder that the Browns are going into this uncapped year in great shape financially?

  10. He's made so many mistakes that it's hard to even list all of them...

He's rubbed people the wrong way since he came here. Sean Rogers asks for a trade a week after Mangini gets hired? Doesn't seem so unreasonable now.

The draft. I don't care how many picks he accumulated. We missed out on so many impact players it's sad to even think about.

The QB situation. 3 months of absolute secrecy over who was going to be the starter? He botched the entire "open competition" and both QB's may never be the same because of it.

Not replacing DA at half time despite his 0.0 QB rating. But he gives us the best chance to move the ball, right?

    The player fines. Really? Wtf.

Putting the players through one of the most grueling training camps in the NFL. That payed off, didn't it?

    Trading Winslow I agreed with.

Trading the 5th overall pick and Braylon Edwards for a bunch of Jets players that were just good enough to get him fired in New York? That's insanity. How many of those players have made an impact?

Yes, he saved the team money but he did it by tanking a season that he really couldn't afford to tank. Terry Pluto said today that the fans haven't been in this big of an uproar since the team left in 1995. Who's fault is that?

Mangini's biggest mistake will be alienating the most loyal fanbase in all of sports.

Correct me if i'm wrong but Rogers is still here and playing hard right!

The draft. I don't care how many picks he accumulated. We missed out on so many impact players it's sad to even think about.

You can determine that after 8 games? Wow, it takes the PROFESSIONALS 3 or 4 years to determine the talent of a draft pick.

The QB situation. 3 months of absolute secrecy over who was going to be the starter? He botched the entire "open competition" and both QB's may never be the same because of it.

Both QB's suck. I can understand why he couldn't make up his mind.

Not replacing DA at half time despite his 0.0 QB rating. But he gives us the best chance to move the ball, right?

Like i said they both suck. It would be like picking between me and you to be the qb. I'm Brady because i have the looks and your da because you don't have the looks.

    The player fines. Really? Wtf.

If you stole a water you'd be fined too.

Putting the players through one of the most grueling training camps in the NFL. That payed off, didn't it?

It worked for him in NY. Some coaches run a hard camp and some don't, this holds no weight.

    Trading Winslow I agreed with.

I'm still trying to figure out why people think he did so bad in NY. But yes, i think the combination of Alex Mack, Coleman, Barton, Elam, Tresnick, Bowens, and the draft picks we added will and have made a bigger impact than Edwards and Sanchez.

Yes, he saved the team money but he did it by tanking a season that he really couldn't afford to tank. Terry Pluto said today that the fans haven't been in this big of an uproar since the team left in 1995. Who's fault is that?

  12. He passed on Sanchez - better than either QB we have.

Ray Mauluga - better than any LB we have right now.

Clay Matthews - legacy player making an impact in Green Bay.

Jeremy Maclin - name a WR on our roster with as much upside as him?

    Percy Harvin - same.

Oh, but we got our franchise center. Thank God, I was afraid we would wait until the later rounds to pick up a center.

  13. Mark Sanchez is the 28th ranked QB in the league, granted that is better than Quinn or DA he's really not all that impressive.

It's been said time and time again but Mauluga doesn't fit the 3-4 defense.

Matthews is having a hell of a season in Green Bay, if he would of been there in the second round and we would of passed then you'd have an argument but he was a reach where we picked.

WR's are a bigger risk than any other position to draft early.

Alex Mack is playing great. How can you even question that pick.
